"At Princeton, Woodrow Wilson was first a teacher, and later, president of the university. Although he was popular with his students, he did have a reputation for cracking down on students who were not serious in their pursuit of an education.

The mother of one young man who was expelled for cheating made a trip to Princeton to talk with Wilson. She pleaded with him to reinstate her son because of the possible adverse reaction his expulsion would have on her own health and reputation. She told him of an impending operation and said she felt certain she would die if her son were not readmitted. Wilson heard her pleas and then responded, taking a very tough stance,
"Madam, you force me to say a hard thing. If I had to choose between your life or my life or anybody's life and the good of this college,I should choose the good of the college."
Failure to study and to apply oneself fully to one's studies is a form of rebellion. The same holds for cheating. Do your best in school. Don't blame a teacher for being too hard on you, when the blame actually lies in your being too easy on yourself. Learn to be a thinker!"
